How scoring works

Guess the Banzuke is older than this site. You take the ranking that just finished and place every salaried rikishi — and the makushita joi — where you think the Kyokai will put them next. Tachiai is that board, with the usual rank-change marks.

Most of us start with the ugly cases: kadoban ozeki (one more losing basho and they drop), a yokozuna who went make-koshi (they will not be demoted), and the yusho winner (almost never buried). Then you fill the maegashira ladder.

The grade

When the official banzuke drops, a locked sheet is scored against that sheet:

• 2 points if they sit in the exact rank and side (M6e is M6e).
• 1 point if the rank is right but the side is wrong (M6e vs M6w).
• Zero if they’re on a different rank, even by half a step.

Extra Y2 and O3 slots stay on the guess sheet because the next banzuke can add a second yokozuna or a third ozeki. Leaving them empty is correct until you promote into them.

Colors

Names use the usual colors: green kachi-koshi, red make-koshi, gold for 7–7, gray for kyujo. East is listed first; it is not a conference.

Drop modes: stack shares a slot, shift nudges everyone below, block refuses an occupied rank. Auto-arrange fills the guess sheet from comparable cases (typical next rank, then shift down).
