Opening Tachiai…
三賞
The three prizes from Hatsu 2024.
殊勲賞
Outstanding performance. Usually awarded for beating yokozuna or ozeki, or for a run that shaped the yusho.
敢闘賞
Fighting spirit. A gutsy winning record, often from lower maegashira, that the committee cannot ignore.
技能賞
Technique. Awarded for the way they win — throws and other kimarite — not just the win count.
